Back on the Review Panel at Norwich City College

I was delighted to return to Norwich City College to take part once again in the review panel for the Cross Media Campaign by students on the Creative Media and Technology course.

These sessions are always valuable because they put student work into a more professional context. Ideas have to be explained, challenged and defended. Choices around audience, format, tone, accessibility and delivery all come into focus.

That is where creative work often becomes sharper.

The Value Of A Review Panel

A good review panel is not there to flatten ideas into something safe.

It is there to ask useful questions. Who is this for? Why this channel? What is the strongest part of the idea? What could be clearer? What happens when the campaign has to move from concept into production?

Those questions are familiar in industry, but they are not always obvious when a project is still taking shape.

Being able to share that perspective with students is one of the reasons I enjoy going back.

What Stood Out

I was struck again by the commitment and imagination in the room.

There were concepts with strong visual instincts, thoughtful audience thinking and clear attempts to connect message, medium and behaviour. Some ideas needed tightening, as all ideas do, but the energy behind them was obvious.

It was also good to share feedback alongside the course leaders and fellow industry contributors. A mix of perspectives gives students something more useful than a single opinion. It helps them see how creative work is interpreted from different angles.

Why These Links Matter

Creative education benefits from real contact with working practitioners.

Students get a clearer sense of how their work may land beyond the classroom. Industry guests get reminded of the value of fresh thinking, direct questions and ideas that have not yet been over-shaped by process.

That exchange is healthy.

Thanks to Norwich City College for inviting me back. I hope to see everyone again next year.
